For years people have said that the sound of fingernails or chalk on a blackboard is the worst sound.
But we so rarely get to hear that sound anymore with blackboards and chalk disappearing from classrooms.
So we need a new worst sound.
I have some nominations for most annoying sound.
A tap dripping. Sure it sounds alright the first ten drips but gets very annnoying around the 100th drip as you try to fall sleep.
A squeaky door. Opening slowly.
The sound your knife or fork makes when it scrapes the plate.
A baby crying. I will turn off a tv show or movie that has too much of that.
But here is my worst sound – styrofoam rubbing against another piece of styrofoam.
It sends chills up and down my spine. It’s the absolute worst.
