NS Power Mobilized 300 Crews, Activates EOC

Nova Scotia Power mobilized over 300 crews early Thursday morning in response to mass outages around the province caused by a heavy wind and rain storm that hit over Wednesday night.

Outages peaked early Thursday morning with around 80,000 homes without power, as of 11:30 a.m. it was down to less than 40,000.

“Our crews have been in the field overnight restoring power to those impacted by the high winds and rain,” said Sean Borden, NS Power Storm Lead. “We have over 300 field workers restoring power for customers across the province.”

Although the outages were relatively widespread the hardest hit communities were along the Chignecto Ithmus where wind at times surpassed 100 km/h. According to Nova Scotia Power’s Outage Map most of the ongoing outages should be fixed by late Thursday afternoon.
