With the holiday season among us, the RCMP would like to encourage Nova Scotians to keep safety top of mind. Corporal Chris Marshall says they often see a spike in certain types of crimes this time of year, and with the hustle and bustle of the holidays people are often distracted and can forget basic safety rules.
If you are traveling, always check the weather and road conditions and slow down if its snowy or icy.
Remember to keep valuables including gifts out of sight and always keep your vehicles locked even when parked in your own driveway.
When you order items online make sure you have items delivered to your local post office to avoid pirate thefts and keep a receipt of your mail orders.
Always keep your home well-lit and locked at all times and keep gifts out of site from potential burglars and avoid posting photos of expensive items on social media so as not to tempt a potential theft.
If you plan to consume alcohol never drive after drinking and report impaired drivers immediately.
If you or someone you know is in immediate danger, call 911 or your local RCMP detachment
