Winter Storm Hits Eastern N.S, Causes Power Outages

Messy roads and widespread power outages for Eastern Nova Scotia.

The first winter storm of the season brought lots of snow and high winds to all of Cape Breton, along with Guysborough, Antigonish and Pictou counties.

Schools in the Strait Regional Centre for Education will delay opening by two hours.

Schools in Cape Breton-Victoria are open, but buses will be travelling on paved roads only today.

Thousands woke up to no power this morning, some outages may not be restored until later today.

The Canso Causeway was closed to high-sided vehicles for most of the day, but has since re-opened.

RCMP advised people to stay off the roads last night, and said Highway 104 between Exit 29 and the Causeway was ‘impassable.’

Winter Storm warnings have now been lifted as conditions improve today.
