Year In Review: Liberal Leader Zach Churchill

A landmark year for Zach Churchill.

The long-time MLA and former cabinet minister became the leader of the Nova Scotia Liberal Party back in July.

He says while it’s exciting to be the first party leader from Yarmouth, his main focus is helping Nova Scotians through these challenging times.

“We’ve watched our health system get a lot worse in the last year, to a frightening degree. The impacts of inflation and cost of living as well, we really have to wrap our head around the question, what can government do that’s helpful?” says Churchill.

He says the healthcare system has taken a major turn for the worse.

“The Premier is 16 months in, he said he was going to fix healthcare, starting on day one. He said there was a crisis when there was 60,000 people without a family doctor. That number has more than doubled in the last year.”

Churchill says one positive from this year was the return of the CAT ferry, which helped bump tourism numbers for the province.

He says he’ll be focused on continuing to hold Premier Tim Houston and the government accountable, and to do what’s right for Nova Scotians.
