New supportive housing is coming to Sydney.
The province says it will help women and gender-diverse individuals get a fresh start after leaving jail.
The ‘Axis Point’ program will be able to house six people at two properties.
Community Services Minister Karla MacFarlane says it will prevent the women from becoming homeless.
“Making sure that we can not only have this type of housing in the HRM, but reaching rural areas as well,” said MacFarlane.
She says additional beds are going to be added through March and April across the province.
“Homelessness isn’t just happening in the city, it’s going on right from Yarmouth to Sydney. We are continuing to have active conversations.”
The program in Sydney will be staffed around the clock, and have mental health and employment services.
