The Government of Canada and the Province of Nova Scotia have jointly announced an investment of more than $2.6 million for water and wastewater infrastructure upgrades in the Region of Queens Municipality. The funding will be used to upgrade and replace water, sanitary, and storm sewer lines, decommission the existing combined sewer outfall, and install a new wastewater pumping station, force main, and storm sewer outfall.
This project is a significant step forward in improving the reliability and capacity of the Region of Queens Municipality’s water systems. It will also increase its capacity to treat and manage wastewater and storm water, which is vital for the long-term health and well-being of the community.
Mayor Darlene Norman of the Region of Queens Municipality expressed her gratitude for the financial support, stating that the investment will help replace and upgrade inadequate and outdated infrastructure. The Honourable Kim Masland, Minister of Public Works, also emphasized the importance of investing in water and wastewater systems to ensure the long-term health of the residents who call the area home.
Norman expects the work to begin this Spring, and although she says it will cause traffic disruptions she says the community members she’s spoken with have indicated they think any disruptions will be worth it in the end when the new systems are up and running.
