MacMaster questioned on later start for CAT ferry

You may have noticed a late start for the CAT ferry this season.

The 2022 season began in mid-May, but the first sail from Yarmouth to Maine isn’t scheduled until May 25th this year.

Speaking on Public Works issues during cabinet, MLA Allan MacMaster says that decision came from Bay Ferries.

“They try to optimize the schedule, to ensure it’s operating at as full capacity, as much as it can,” said MacMaster.

He says they were ramping up the service last year, and had a soft-launch.

“I think that’s the reason, as they’ve indicated, that they’ve chosen to run a few less trips this year.”

The season ends on October 9th.

MacMaster says the Economic Impact Study on the ferry hasn’t taken place yet, but there’s been consultations with local businesses, municipalities, and the tourism industry.
