I’m getting used to it. Every year it takes me a while to get used to the sound of a fan running while I sleep. In the fall, I will have to go through another period of adjustment when I turn it off. But that’s okay.
I am not a fan of air conditioning. I work in an air conditioned building which I find a bit too cold for the entire year, but it stays the same. It’s built that way. Most days I would like to take my chair and take a swing at a window or two. I would much prefer outdoor air. But that would probably not go over well in the winter. And with all the computers we have around here, they would probably not like the temperatures outside, even if I do prefer suffering though the heat. So I sit in air conditioning all day.
At the end of the day, I remove the sweater I have been wearing and enjoy a blast of heat as I walk out. If I am chilled enough, after sitting in air conditioning all day long, I might even be seen still wearing the sweater, driving around in a car with the windows rolled up. No, I do not have the air conditioning cranked up. I am trying to warm up after a day in the cold.
As I mentioned, I’m not really a fan or air conditioning. I rarely turn it on in the car, unless the dog is finding things a bit too warm. And I do not have any sort of air conditioning at home. But for the summer months, when it starts to get a bit too warm, I do have a fan. I do like the fan, and I start to get used to that “white noise” hum of the fan running all night long.
There are people who will keep a fan running all year, just to hear that hum. You can actually buy a “white noise” generator, a machine that will produce that hum. It drowns out other noises around you, and just leaves you with a steady, monotonous hum to lull you off to sleep. And you don tend to get used to it.
So I have adjusted to my fan, just in time for things to get a bit warmer. Not only have I adjusted, I am a fan of the fan. On the hottest nights it might not make a big difference. But that drone of the fan helps me sleep anyway.
