It has been debated for years and I doubt there will ever be a Best Cut when it comes to sandwiches. Personal preference is the only reason I have ever really thought to be the reason behind different sandwich cuts. I grew up with the diagonal cut being the adult sandwich cut and the straight cut was used when I was a kid… Don’t ask me why, haha
I cut diagonal now that I make my own sandwiches.
A survey was conducted as we entered 2026 and the findings put me in the majority as a diagonal sandwich cutter. 48 percent of those asked cut sandwiches diagonal. There were 20 percent that cut sandwiches horizontal and 32 percent don’t cut them at all. The survey also found that 80 percent eat their sandwich with the crust on. The other 20 percent go with the crust off their sandwiches.

Now if we look at the top types of sandwiches in Canada… No matter how you cut them, we get a tasty looking list including donairs. My advice is to try them all, cut all different ways, to determine what truly makes the best sandwich. Enjoy!
