Nothing is easy these days. Things that seem to make sense are complicated by the pandemic. Very complicated.
I will admit, I was a bit concerned with what was coming out of the United States over the past few days. The fact that Canada seems to be doing pretty good is not accidental. It has taken a bit of work and sacrifice to get that to happen. So when politicians in the U.S. started talking about opening the border, it was making me nervous.
I know that there are people who were hoping the border could open. Many depend on tourism to make a living and this year will be extremely hard for many of them. But I don’t think it’s time yet.
There are also many other industries that have close ties with our neighbour to the south. I’m sure opening the border would make things much easier for them.
Hopefully soon we can get back to normal, but when the extension was announced yesterday for another thirty days, I thought it was a good idea.
I know it can’t stay closed forever, and getting things opened up again is good for business. But we have worked hard to get things under control and a few more weeks hopefully won’t hurt too much.
