I used to look down my nose at other pet owners who would spend money at Christmas for toys for their pets. Now that Karen and I are empty nesters we are probably the worst culprits for buying presents for the animals. And I can’t even put the blame on my wife Karen. It’s me. I am a pet spoiler.
Our black lab is getting old and isn’t in the best of health these days. Her last big present was a memory foam mattress for her crate. Since she sleeps a lot the least we can do is make sure she has a very comfortable sleep. Right? (I can just picture some of you rolling your eyes)
Now our cats are a completely different story. Last year when I read an article about how cats need stimulation, especially if they are indoor cats, I jumped in with both feet. I read articles and looked on Amazon for stimulating cat toys. They each have their favourites now. Winnie likes enclosed spaces so the pup tent is her domain. Laz likes anything brightly coloured that has feathers. He’s the little hunter in the family. And dear sweet Mary likes to eat – so all of her toys are puzzles that release kitty treats.
Now after a year they all need new toys. It wouldn’t do to have bored kitties all winter, now, would it?
