ALC releases annual report, profits up as are losses to offshore gambling

Atlantic Lottery’s (ALC) latest annual report reveals $487 million in profits returned to the four Atlantic provinces in 2023-24.

The organization saw growth across its online gambling platforms, with revenue from the iLottery business increasing by 17 percent.

In total, ALC distributed $447 million in prizes, an increase of $7 million from the previous year.

ALC profits help fund essential public services such as healthcare, education, and infrastructure. However, illegal gambling remains a significant issue, with nearly $200 million leaving the region annually due to offshore platforms.

Atlantic Lottery is the only legal provider of online gaming and sports-betting in Atlantic Canada, but many residents continue to use unregulated sites. “Unfortunately, nearly $200 million leaves Atlantic Canada each year as a result of the illegal gambling market,” said CEO Patrick Daigle, adding that this diverts profits that could otherwise support local communities.
