An unverified drug alert is circulating in Lunenburg County after several suspected overdoses were reported within 24 hours.
Nova Scotia Health says they were informed by a community source that emergency crews responded to multiple calls involving heavy sedation, snoring or absent breathing, and loss of consciousness—effects that may be linked to a contaminated or unusually potent supply.
Harm-reduction groups are urging people to take extra precautions, including not using drugs alone and starting with very small amounts.
The National Overdose Response Service is available at 1-888-688-NORS to stay on the line with people while they use, so help can be dispatched if needed.
Naloxone is recommended in any suspected overdose.
While it only reverses opioid effects, experts say it will not cause harm if opioids are not involved. Anyone witnessing an overdose is encouraged to call 911 immediately, stay with the person, and provide CPR if they stop breathing.
People are also being reminded that the Good Samaritan Drug Overdose Act protects them from simple possession charges when calling for emergency help.
