A listener sent this dilemma to us:
What do you do when you realize all your friends are snobs?
We all went to school together then went on to university and are all professionals married to professionals. I never realized how shallow these friends are until I started dating an amazing guy who works as a security guard. Although he doesn’t have a university degree he is very intelligent with a wide variety of interests and is a very kind, decent person who I am in love with.
At get togethers he’s been asked when is he going back to college or why he didn’t go into law enforcement.
I learned early on in the relationship that his ex’s family looked down on him for his job and I know he was hurt about the whole situation so I do not intend to bring this up to him. At this point in his life he’s very happy with his choices.
I don’t want to throw away lifetime friendships over this, but can’t figure out how to bring this up to my friends without getting into a fight. Please don’t tell me I have to start making new friends.
