Almost 300 Attend Pop-up COVID-19 Testing Centre

The Doctor in charge of the pop up COVID-19 testing Centre in Bridgewater earlier this month says things went off without a hitch.

Dr. John Ross, Medical Director for Praxes Medical Group said the event met expectations.

“It was one of our better places that we have gone to because it had a waitlist of volunteers, which is fantastic,” he said, “The enthusiasm of the people that came out was very upbeat and the venue was great.”

The asymptomatic testing, which took place January 16th and 17th at Cineplex, attracted 299 participants.

The testing used at these asymptomatic testing centres involves a nasal swab which is put through rapid testing, said Ross, allowing participants to receive their results in thirty minutes to an hour.

The testing was available to anyone 16 and older who had no symptoms of the virus, had not visited a potential exposure site, was not a close contact of a person with COVID 19, and who hadn’t left the Atlantic Bubble in the 14 day’s prior to testing.

Ross said none of the participants tested positive at this event, but reminds those who have tested negative, that precautions must still be taken.

“A negative test means that it’s negative today, I can’t predict the future.” Ross said, “I still want you to wear your mask, physical distance, and wash your hands”

He said although there is not a set date for another pop up testing centre in Bridgewater, he expects there will be more in the future.
