An Application Problem

I stopped to get my hair trimmed on my way into work this morning. I joked with the barber that I was going to have to make sure I put plenty of sunscreen on my ears this weekend, since they had been hiding under hair for a while. He said I should just get a wide brimmed hat. That might not be such a bad idea.

I’ve been working on my tan a little at a time over the past few weeks. No, I haven’t been laying in the sun, soaking up the rays, hoping to turn a nice golden brown. I wear sunscreen. I’m very careful about that. I just tend to miss spots.

I usually notice when I jump into the shower on the morning after a day in the sun. One small spot will start to sting a bit as the hot water hits it. Then I notice a red splotch. Last week, it was a spot on the side of my neck. The week before, a patch on the under side of my arm.

I do my best, but I don’t seem very good at it. Part of the issue is, the stuff is pretty much invisible. Maybe they could make it like that paint you get for ceilings. You know. It’s blue until it dries. So you can see where you’re painted and don’t miss any spots. That would work for sunscreen.

It usually feels like I’ve got pretty good coverage, but it must be too thin in some areas. As long as I can keep track of the areas, I should be able to have a pretty good all-over tan by about some time next year.

There are those out there that don’t have to worry about such things. They don’t burn. They tan. I am not one of those people. I burn and I know it. And I try to keep that from taking place, so I make sure I have plenty of sunscreen on. It’s the where that seems to be tripping me up.

Maybe something like a sunscreen shower that you just stand under and get covered from head to toe. This would also sure the issue of slightly thinning hair. I still have hair, but the problem is it just doesn’t cover as well as it once did. There is enough of it there to make it nearly impossible to get sunscreen on the scalp, but it does not stop the sun from coming though and toasting what it underneath.

But until they come up with the sun screen shower, I’ll have to stick with a hat and working on the tan-in-patches plan. It might not be ideal, but it’s the best I’ve come up with so far.
