There was a fellow named Irv Gordon from New York who passed away around eight years ago who managed to put over 3 million miles on his 1966 Volvo 1800S, a record that still stands.
It had a manual clutch which lasted 450,000 miles, about 9 times longer than normal. I don’t know if Volvo built an indestructible clutch or perhaps Irv was just very gentle with his car.
He did all his own oil changes and brake work, and made sure his tires were always in tip top shape.
His big rule was never let anyone else drive your car.
I had a Honda Civic VX from ’92 that did two cross country return trips and was getting up there in kilometres, but nothing like Irv’s record.
What’s the highest mileage you’ve ever achieved with a vehicle?
