The provincial government is funding energy efficiency projects in the fisheries and aquaculture sector, aiming to reduce emissions from boats, buildings, and seafood processing facilities.
Fourteen companies and organizations are receiving financial support through the Fisheries and Aquaculture Energy Efficiency Innovation Fund.
Among the recipients, Little Harbour Fisheries is receiving more than nine thousand eight hundred dollars to install solar panels at a bait storage facility. L. Walker Seafoods is being awarded thirty thousand dollars to upgrade a live lobster holding facility with an energy-efficient condenser. R. Baker Fisheries Limited is receiving eighty-six thousand five hundred dollars to install advanced refrigeration units that will lower energy consumption at its seafood processing site.
Shelburne MLA Nolan Young said the funding supports local fisheries and aquaculture businesses as they adopt technology to lower emissions.
The Fisheries and Aquaculture Energy Efficiency Innovation Fund provides financial assistance for projects that reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the seafood industry. The government is now accepting applications for a second round of funding, with a deadline of April 11.
