Are Outdoor Pants A Thing

I was reading something the other day that struck me as interesting. How on really cold days, like say, last Saturday, many of us will wear our warmest coat and hat and probably a scarf. We’ll bundle up the upper half of our body before venturing out into the cold. But most people tend to wear the same pants no matter what the weather.

Now those who do outdoor activities such as skiing may have pants for the occasion, but a lot of people will venture out on cold days with extra warm layers only on the upper half of the body.

It seems a bit strange, but when you look around, it tends to be true for a lot of people. A bunch of layers on the upper half, but just the same one layer we usually have on the bottom half.

There could be very good reasons for that. You don’t always walk into a place and immediately take off your pants. You very well could take off your jacket and scarf, maybe your hat, but dropping your outdoor pants seems a bit strange, somehow.

Even our feet might get extra socks. Or at least extra think ones. The get covered over by insulated boots.

If I plan to go out for a while on a cold day, I may sneak a pair of long johns under my pants. I may even wear a pair of lined pants, just for such and occasion. And if it’s really cold, you may even find me wearing long johns and lined pants. Not being into skiing or snowmobiling, I don’t have any sort of waterproof pants form playing in the snow. Although I probably should. You just never know when you need to make snowman or build a snow fort. But I like to be warm.

I had never really thought of this before. But we do seem to often take our legs for granted.
