Argyle-Barrington MLA Pushing For Action On Vaping

The PC MLA for Argyle-Barrington wants action on the subject of vaping.

Colton LeBlanc says it is time that the McNeil Liberals take action to reduce vaping among young people.

He says his party introduced legislation last month targeting youth vaping in the province.

“We introduced, in that legislation, various aspects to tackle that, including preventing possessing tobacco products for individuals under 19, banning flavoured e-liquids, providing educational components, and requiring a review of legislation after 5 years.”

LeBlanc says Nova Scotia was the first to take action against flavoured tobacco products and he hopes they do the same with regards to vaping juice.

“The minister promised earlier in October that they are looking to how strong that legislation is but legislation is clear, concrete, and open and that’s the way I believe we need to move forward to tackle this vaping issue in Nova Scotia.”

A recent study by Smoke-Free Nova Scotia shows that that nearly 37 per cent of students from grades seven through twelve have tried an e-cigarette at least once, a far higher number than the Canadian average.

It also said that almost half of vaping youth would quit if flavoured juice was not available.
