Bambi is one of the most beloved classic Disney movies ever, but did you know it has Nova Scotia roots? The film was released in 1942, but the idea for the film came from a picture taken in Clyde River, Nova Scotia!
Dr. Jack Lore and his dad spent time in Clyde River during the summers, and Jack loved to film and take photos of deer. Some of those photos ended up in his dad’s New York City doctor’s office, and when a man who worked with Walt Disney came in for a visit one day, he admired the photos and wanted to know more about them and where they were taken!
The rest was history! Disney even borrowed the film footage from the Lore’s to make sure Bambi was drawn right! Check out the video below for an interview from CBC about the whole story!
