Barn On Cape Sable Island Destroyed By Fire

A barn on Cape Sable Island that contained fishing gear was destroyed by fire over the weekend.

The Island and Barrington Passage Volunteer Fire Department responded to the blaze in Newellton around 1 p.m. Saturday.

Chief Walter Scott says the barn was fully engulfed when they got there, and they immediately started attacking from the exterior.

It took about two hours to extinguish the blaze.

There is no word on the cause of the fire.

Scott says the Woods Harbour/Shag Harbour and Barrington/Port La Tour departments provided mutual aid.

He says it’s another great example of the amalgamated fire services in Barrington working well together.
