Barrington Calls on Province To Address Cape Sable Island Highway

The Municipality of Barrington recently penned a letter to the provincial government and Minister of Transportation requesting them to do a full assessment of the Cape Sable Island Causeway.

The causeway was last inspected in the Summer of 2018 when the provincial government deemed it suitable and fit for transport.

According to the Municipality, it has since degraded significantly. Warden of the District of the Municipality of Barrington Eddie Knickerson says people have even been hurt.

“There are big potholes, I had one friend fall into one and she scraped her leg all the way up so they are at least hip height in some areas.”

Knickerson was one of the names that signed the letter calling for an assessment but he would prefer more immediate action.

“What I’d really like is for someone to come down and fix it, but that’s not really how things work hence why we made this request.

According to the Municipality, the causeway serves over 3,000 residents and it also sees daily traffic of over 7,000 vehicles some of which are transporting valuable seafood products.
