The Bridgewater Police Service is providing more details on the Thursday arrest on King Street that involved a brief foot chase.
Their release indicates they were officers attempted to arrest a man known with an outstanding warrant for possession of stolen property.
The warrant was in relation to a stolen all-terrain vehicle (ATV) that was recovered on October 3. The vehicle had been stolen from a location on High Street in Bridgewater overnight on August 27, 2022.
RCMP had made two previous attempts to arrest the suspect but he resisted and fled on both occasions.
BPS says they knew the suspect had been living in Bridgewater but had no fixed address when they spotted him on Thursday.
Officers approached him and informed him that he was under arrest, but he immediately resisted arrest by fleeing on foot, heading east toward King Street.
With multiple officers in pursuit, the suspect ran underneath the Old Bridge and positioned himself on the bridge support beams. BPS officers quickly secured the area around the intersection of King Street and Old Bridge and, after a brief negotiation, Robar climbed back toward officers and was arrested.
The suspect was held in custody overnight and appeared in Bridgewater Provincial Court to face charges on Friday, January 27, 2023. In addition to the outstanding charges, two additional charges were also pending from Thursday’s attempt to flee from police.
