The youth divisions of Scouts Canada known as Beavers is at risk of not operating in Bridgewater next year if more volunteers aren’t found.
In a Facebook post from the Bridgewater United Church who are a major sponsor of the local Scouts Canada chapter (3rd Bridgewater Scouting), says that in order for Beavers to run next year they need 2-3 individuals who can make a year-long commitment to the program.
That commitment involves planning events for the Beavers who range in age from 5-to 7 and attending weekly meetings with the group.
The program aims to teach youth valuable lessons about; self-confidence, environmental stewardship, problem solving and interpersonal skills.
Scouts Canada who oversee all Beaver programs in the country will not approve the program in Bridgewater unless they can get firm commitments from volunteers.
In the post, the church indicated that five other Beaver chapters in the surrounding area have had to close over the past ten years due to similar issues.
Although the program has received interest from four volunteers already, none of them were able to make the time commitments necessary to get the green light from Scouts Canada.
The program usually starts in January and the local chapter is hoping to receive some interest from volunteers quickly so they can begin the required training and police checks that are required to be eligible.
