The local Salvation Army’s Christmas Kettle Campaign is just a few thousand dollars away from reaching its goal.
So far, they’ve collected $76,000, says Major Tim Leslie, with the Bridgewater Salvation Army.
While donations so far have exceeded last years by over $2000, Leslie says, they’re also seeing increased need this year.
“The number of Christmas hampers has almost doubled this year from last year,” he says. “A lot of families have been severely impacted by COVID and they’re coming and asking for help where they’ve never done it before.”
The Christmas hampers contain enough food to get families through the Holidays, along with some toys for the kids.
Leslie thinks they’ll reach the $80,000 goal by the time the campaign ends at 2 p.m. on Dec. 24.
Donations can be made at Superstore, Sobeys, Walmart, Gow’s Home Hardware, the Bridgewater Mall or the NSLC.
