A 29-year-old Bridgewater man is now in custody following a robbery yesterday in Bridgewater.
Officers with the Bridgewater Police Services responded to a robbery in progress call at Shoppers Drug Mart in the South Shore Centre just before 4 pm yesterday.
Sgt. Matt Bennett said a man had entered the store demanding prescription pills before assaulting a pharmacy staff member and going behind the counter.
He said there were no injuries during the assault.
“Upon our arrival, we located the adult male behind the pharmacy counter where he was subsequently arrested,” he said.
“During the altercation, the male resisted arrest and was controlled and moved to the police cruiser.”
Bennett said its unclear what exactly the charges will be right now, but more information will be available at a later date.
He declined to discuss if a weapon was involved, or if the man was known to the pharmacy.
Shoppers was closed for the remainder of the day with a notice on the door stating they had shut down due to an emergency.
Bennett says police are still investigating the robbery.
