Bridgewater Man Calling For Earlier Store Closing Christmas Eve

A Bridgewater man wants retail staff to have more family time at Christmas.

Tony Lohnes says stores stay open too late on Christmas Eve to allow employees to celebrate the holiday.

Lohnes feels government needs to step in.

“I’d like it legislated because I believe in the future, it will just branch off into other openings. If we can legislate a February holiday, we can legislate Christmas Eve and New Years Eve.”

Lohnes says closing stores by four o’clock would give staff the time they deserve.

He has started a petition asking for the province to set closing hours for retail outlets.
