Public transit in Bridgewater is marking a milestone less than two years since the service began.
The town issued a statement on its Facebook page announcing more than 50,000 passengers have used the bus.
Mayor David Mitchell says it’s been amazing to watch the progress.
“It certainly proves that there was a much-needed public transit service in Bridgewater. I think it also demonstrates how much the community has embraced it.”
Mitchell says not only are people who need the bus, using it, but also individuals who have chosen to leave a vehicle at home.
He says 50,000 riders in less than two years was unexpected.
“It wasn’t even a target on the far end of optimism.”
Mitchell says he sees a day where two buses are running in the town but that is “very preliminary” and no discussions have been held in council.
