Bridgewater Town Council Meets Online, Amidst COVID-19

Last week the Provincial government mandated that all municipal council meetings take place online, so that’s exactly what Bridgewater did.

Mayor David Mitchell says the Bridgewater councillors did a dry run last week to iron out all the technical details. At the actual meeting, Mitchell says everything went surprisingly well “It was really smooth, no real technical issues.” The challenge now becomes involving the community.

According to Mitchell, it isn’t ideal having meeting where the public isn’t present but they are trying to find solutions. Monday’s council meeting was made available to the public via Facebook live stream and work is underway to find more ways to improve transparency.

Calls and emails about COVID-19 from concerned residents are common says Mitchell who says his days are now filled up responding to his constituents something he says he’s happy to do.
