Don’t be tricked by the appearance of pumpkin flavoured beverages, fall is still several weeks away.
And the Department of Natural Resources wants to make sure people continue to check burn restrictions before lighting any fires.
“The woods are still extremely dry and any spark could still create another forest fire for us. It is getting better, because the days are getting shorter and all that, but the risk is still just as high.”
Operations Manager Jim Rudderham says there’s still a risk of forest fire until snow has covered the ground.
“Of course you can burn in winter, it’s the best time to burn,” he says. “All you have to do is cover your pile, if you have a brush fire pile to burn, with a tarp. I do it all the time. When the snow is on you take the tarp off, the pile is nice and dry and you light it up and there’s no risk to anybody.”
Rudderham says until then continue to check the DNR website each day at two.
