Ever wanted to have your own haunted house? The house that inspired the Conjuring is up for sale.
The old colonial style farmhouse located in Rhode Island inspired the movies and has been available for those who would like to spend the night in a haunted house. Now, it’s up for sale.
The present owners are quick to point out that while strange things happen, like books falling off shelves or doors opening and closing by themselves, no one has every been harmed in the house. But they feel the time has come to pass the place on to a new owner.
The price tag of $1.2 million U.S. might be the truly scary thing about the house, but given the current real estate market, that doesn’t seem too unreasonable. But if I spend that much on a house, I really want to know for sure that all previous residents have left the premises. Or if you are buying it as a haunted house, will they stick around?
That’s the tricky part with haunted houses. You can’t really tell. Some times these ghostly things might happen. Some times they don’t. But if you’re going to spend over a million bucks on a house that’s supposed to be haunted, it should really come with a guarantee. Ghosts included or your money back sort of thing.
Now, if you happen to buy a house and it just happens to be haunted, that’s just one of those things. But in this case, they are using the haunted part as a selling point.
Now, to be honest, I haven’t seen the movie. I don’t bother watching a lot of scary movies. People get themselves in trouble, mostly by doing things that most of us would avoid. “Oh, the power’s out. I’d better check the dark spooky basement all by myself.” Who does things like that? You should always take someone else with you. Preferably, someone you can outrun.
There are no shortage of haunted places around here. At least places that claim to be haunted. Most of them don’t use that as a selling point.
Buying a haunted house may be interesting. Even fun, in some ways. But I’d want some guarantees. Like, can you guarantee there are ghosts? Can you guarantee they won’t hurt someone? And if I need to go to the basement on a dark and stormy night, are you available? And, most important… how fast can you run?
