Caledonia Fire Destroys Former Legion

Over eleven Fire Departments were called to a fire in Caledonia on Wednesday night along Westfield Road.

Calls began coming in around 10:00 p.m. indicating that the building which formerly housed the Legion was smoking.

“Upon arrival the first truck that got there noticed smoke coming out under the eaves on all sides of the building and we began running lines and coordinating mutual aid right away,” said North Queens Fire Cheif Chris Wolfe.

Firefighters attempted to extinguish the fire which was in the attic of the building for about ten minutes before heat and smoke forced them out.

“We quickly switched to a defensive strategy, monitoring the fire and ensuring it didn’t spread to anything nearby,” Wolfe said.

No one was injured in the fire but the building was completely destroyed.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
