Canada Investing Billions To Upgrade NORAD

Canada is investing billions into NORAD upgrades and significant modernization for the first time in more than 40 years.

Federal Minister of Defence, Anita Anand, announced that Canada will be investing $4.9 billion over the next six years.

While not specifically listed, the money will overhaul joint air defence command that was originally designed to look out for Soviet bombers.

The latest federal budget already allocated up to $8B in new funding for defence upgrades, and up to $6B has been set pledged for other tasks including modernizing NORAD.

The $5B that Canada will be contributing is small in comparison to our American counterparts, who will be footing 60 per cent of the bill.

The overall investment for the continental and northern defence upgrades will exceed $40 billion over two decades.
