After the crazy weather some areas on the South Shore had this weekend, I’m really not surprised about this.
The Weather Network is reporting we are going to have an extremely active Hurricane Season…with an increased chance of tropical systems making landfall here on the East Coast.
“The National Hurricane Center has forecasted 13 to 19 named storms, six to 10 hurricanes and three to six major ones that are category three or stronger.”
Not all of these storms may make it to Canada…but still large numbers!!
Hurricane season has already started and will last till the end of November.
Today marks the first official day of #hurricane season. When it comes to #hurricanes or any type of #SevereWeather, remember this: don’t be scared, just #GetPrepared! pic.twitter.com/JxhzCXRbgH

With “Dorian” last year, I’ve learnt it’s always good to be prepared for the worst. So make sure you have a kit ready! If you have it all together, you don’t need to be rushing around the day before a storm looking for stuff.
Here’s a few things “the National Hurricane Centre” recommends you can put together and be prepared!!
A basic emergency supply kit could include the following recommended items:
- Water (one gallon per person per day for at least three days, for drinking and sanitation)
- Food (at least a three-day supply of non-perishable food)
- Battery-powered or hand crank radio and a NOAA Weather Radio with tone alert
- Flashlight
- First aid kit
- Extra batteries
- Whistle (to signal for help)
- Dust mask (to help filter contaminated air)
- Plastic sheeting and duct tape (to shelter in place)
- Moist towelettes, garbage bags and plastic ties (for personal sanitation)
- Wrench or pliers (to turn off utilities)
- Manual can opener (for food)
- Local maps
- Cell phone with chargers and a backup battery
It’s always good to be prepared 🙂
