A historic heat wave continues to grip Western Canada with numerous new record highs being set in British Columbia and Alberta.
The village of Lytton, B.C. recorded Canada’s hottest temperature ever on Monday at nearly 48 degrees after reaching 47 degrees on Sunday.
These figures have shattered the country’s all-time heat record of 45 degrees set in two Saskatchewan communities in 1937.

The extreme heat is thanks to a dome of hot air which remains stagnant over the West and is slowly moving eastward.
Environment Canada calls the unprecedented heat dangerous with little relief overnight as temperatures barely fall below 20.
