Tropical Storm Jose could become a hurricane again later today but forecasters say it’s not clear if it will affect our region next week.
U-S forecasters warn of potentially causing life-threatening rip currents along the U-S coast and reaching Washington DC.
Bob Robicheau, a meteorologist at the Canadian Hurricane Centre in Dartmouth tells us Jose is still far out to sea, about 575 kilometres to the northeast of the Bahamas.
“It is expected to regain hurricane status today. Maximum winds speeds were at about 110 kilometres an hour so it doesn’t have far to go to regain that hurricane status.”
Robicheau says some model trending indicates that Jose, while very likely not to impact us with a direct hit, could affect Western Nova Scotia or the South Shore late next week.
“It could come lose enough to produce some weather. As to whether that would be just some gusty wind or wind and rain or anything for that matter, its still too early to tell but we’re certainly keeping a close eye on it that’s for sure.”
