You may have another party to choose from when the next federal election rolls around.
Centre Ice Canada announced Wednesday has begun the process of launching a new party.
The Canadian Future Party pitches itself as a centrist option for voters tired of the Liberals and Conservatives.
Dominic Cardy, an independent MLA and former Progressive Conservative cabinet minister in New Brunswick, will lead the party on an interim basis.
“When you talk to Canadians about rage-farming –Liberals and Conservatives embracing extreme positions to get more clicks, engagement, and donations through social media – we hear real anger from citizens who want their government to fix problems, not blame others,” Cardy said in a blog post.
“We want this to be a new model party. Based on pride in our country. Based on evidence. Based on Canadians talking to each other, face to face. A move away from pep rallies and social media manipulation to doing the hard work of trying solutions.”
On its website, the Canadian Future Party said it wants to provide a home for the more than two-thirds of Canadians who feel “politically homeless.”
Officials still have to meet certain criteria set out by Elections Canada before becoming a registered party, such as having 250 founding members.
