Chamber Of Commerce Project Could Be First In Line For New Provincial Funding Initiative

The province has a new funding stream designed to help communities recruit and retain physicians.

Yarmouth MLA Zach Churchill says the initiative, which hasn’t been announced yet, could help the Yarmouth and Area Chamber of Commerce (YACC) with a funding request for a Community Navigator position.

“This application coming from Yarmouth will be the first that we get to consider and I’m really excited to seeing that process finalizing itself because I’m very hopeful we’ll see some additional funds in our community to help with us with this important issue of doctor recruitment and retention.”

Churchill could not say for certain if the $74,000 request from the Chamber would be approved but he was very hopeful and commended the YACC.

The official announcement could be made in the next couple of weeks.

The Chamber has received $20,000 per year for three years from both the Town of Yarmouth and the Municipality of Argyle.

If they get approval from the province, that could firm up what they get from the Municipality of Yarmouth, an amount conditional on the what is secured from the province.

The Chamber will also make a presentation to the Municipality of Barrington on July 8th.
