Chester Health Centre Down Another Doctor

The community of Chester is losing yet another doctor.

Our Health Centre has announced Dr. Kolene Jensen will be relocating from the centre.

This marks the third doctor the centre has lost in three months.

Thelma Costello, chairperson of the board says although the loss of these doctors will affect wait times and doctor availability in the community, she remains optimistic for the future.

“We’re very disappointed at this turn of events,” she said.

“But the health centre is still a mainstay of the community, so I can’t help but think it will get resolved, sooner rather than later.”

Jensen will be relocating to a new practice in Tentallon, and is expected to take in all of her current patients at the new office.

Costello says the doctors’ departures were not the fault of the centre or the community, but more a series of unfortunate circumstances.

“My understanding is that Dr. Jensen lives in the Tantallon area and has a young child going to school there, so it makes sense,” she said.

“The other two had spouses who were not able to find work in Nova Scotia, so they moved on. One to Ontario and one returned to Scotland.”

Jensen is expected to leave at the end of this year.

Costello says the NSHA has already brought other doctors through the centre in hopes of recruiting them.
