Chipless Christmas

We’ve all been hearing it. How supply chain issues and a lack of silicon chips in the world could effect Christmas gifts. So I’m thinking of going chipless this Christmas.

Not potato chips or tortilla chips. I’m not sure I could make it through the festive season without those. But I just may be able to get through it without computer chips.

I know, they’re in pretty much everything these days, but if they’re going to be hard to find, there are a lot of alternatives out there.

Last year, while there were a couple of electronic things involved in Christmas, around our place it was the year of the Nerf gun. I’m not quite sure how it happened, but there were Nerf guns everywhere. It made for a rather entertaining Christmas, particularly for the younger ones. They thought finding Nerf bullets in the gravy was quite amusing. (So did I. I just didn’t dare admit it.) But the year of the Nerf gun has come to and end. Although I’m still picking up Nerf bullets. I have no idea how those things can get into some of the places they ended up.

But I’m thinking of trying something similar this year. Only maybe slightly less annoying to those who insist on trying to be adults.

Maybe board games. A lot of our stash of board games are in need of being refreshed. Maybe even new or different versions. I’m not sure I can even count how many different versions of Monopoly or Risk are out there.

And sure, board games can lead to disagreements, maybe even the odd fight. But at that point, we can settle it by just pulling out the Nerf guns and having a duel.

There are always options.

And the more I think about it, the more I like the idea of a chipless Christmas.
