Christmas Decorations I Don’t Miss

I remember as a kid helping my parents decorate the Christmas tree.

All would go well until my brother and I started on the tinsel. We had to place each piece individually. No throwing clumps of it on.

When mom wasn’t looking we would speed up the process but we never got away with it.

This was back when the tinsel contained lead and wasn’t good for our health.

When they moved to the plastic tinsel that was like an unravelled cassette tape it was even worse.

Static electricity made the pieces stick together.

I don’t miss tinsel at all.

Back then every home seemed to have that spray on fake snow that you had stencils for, and the windows would get decorated with the stuff.

It was great until you had to remove it. Left a real mess.

And finally, the tree topper. We had a space age “Sputnik” satellite on top of our tree.

Mom hated it. Dad loved it.

All my friends thought it was weird.

They’re worth a fortune on Ebay now.

What Christmas decorations do you not miss?
