It’s that strange disconnected time of the year between Christmas and New Year’s where you don’t know what day it is, who you are and what you are supposed to be doing. My wife and I visited in the city Christmas Eve, had a wonderful Christmas dinner in Chester with family and friends on Christmas Day, and then, since everything is locked up tight on Boxing Day, we started the “Big Clean”.
I’d rented an industrial rug cleaner on Christmas Eve and we cleaned and shampooed rugs and carpet all day Boxing Day
, which of course involved moving every piece of furniture in the house. Our grand plan was to get it all done by tonight, but we’re still rearranging rooms and moving clutter next door to the shed. New curtains, new area rugs and a few new pieces of small furniture and we’re almost done.
Previous years during the Christmas New Year’s Twilight Zone we’ve always found ourselves at loose ends – you’ve tried out your Christmas gifts, read a few pages of that new book, caught up on a few films or tv shows you were too busy to watch during the year and snacked on all those great Christmas treats. So this year we tried out the “Big Clean” – those big jobs that are just too time-consuming during the rest of the year.
Although we may have bit off more than we can chew with this one, it felt good to be so productive during this sleepy time of year. We’re far from finished as we’ve discovered that I need to pick up some carpet runners for areas that we weren’t concerned with originally, and after chucking the coffee table we need to replace that with something smaller and more practical. I can’t wait to get back to work at the radio station Monday morning so I can have a rest!
Did you have a restful Christmas? Or were you constantly on the go, visiting friends or perhaps picking up Boxing Day specials after the power outages? Let me know on our Facebook page!
