Churchill Calls Border Protest ‘Unreasonable’

The border protest is affecting healthcare services at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre.

Health and Wellness Minister Zach Churchill says the hospital in Amherst will only provide essential services today.

“This blockade has prevented staff from getting in, and that’s affecting service delivery to patients. Many services have been cancelled today,” said Churchill.

Churchill says the protest is an unreasonable response to very reasonable border restrictions that serve as our greatest tool to combat the Delta variant.

He says to have a group of people, incited by Conservative MLA Elizabeth Smith-McCrossin, block the most critical trade route into our province is reckless.

While he understands people are frustrated, Churchill says there are risks with New Brunswick opening up to the rest of the country this early.
