Churchill Says More Immediate Options Needed In Housing Crisis

A Liberal leadership candidate says Tuesday’s housing announcement by the province is ultimately a good move.

Government announced 37 sites from the provincial land inventory that could be developed, with a priority placed on affordable housing.

Zach Churchill says it’s a positive step, but there is an urgent need now.

“This is going to be years out from development, so it won’t deal with the immediate pressures we’re experiencing in the housing market. But I do hope we’ll see some success with this,” says Churchill.

He says he’d like to see government make the affordable housing incentive grant available to everyone.

“I really think we have to open this up for people in general and not just developers. It would help Nova Scotians be able to build-on a nanny suite to their homes, or install a mini-home.”

Churchill also points to the need for emergency housing for the homeless.
