Clare’s Comeau’s Sea Foods acquired by Liverpool’s Mersey Seafoods

A new direction for an 80-year-old business in Digby County.

Comeau’s Sea Foods in Clare has been acquired by Mersey Seafoods.

The major employer in Saulnierville has been a long-standing contributor to the seafood industry in southwest Nova Scotia, according to the company.

Comeau’s says the decision reflects long-term planning, and maintaining a strong local presence.

There are no immediate changes to day-to-day operations, and the Comeau’s name will remain a part of the business.

Comeau’s Sea Foods President and CEO Noel Despres says it was a thoughtful decision, as Mersey Seafoods understands the industry with shared values.

Mersey president Mike Murphy says they’re committed to operations in Saulnierville and carrying the Comeau’s name forward.

The acquisition is subject to regulatory approval.
