Mahone Bay’s new public alert system will be tested Tuesday.
The town is using the CodeRED notification system to let residents and businesses know about emergencies or town information.
Mayor David Devenne says the system sends out updates that caters to each individual.
“It will be directed to your individual account either to a cellphone or landline or email or e-message. You choose the communications method that for you is the most effective.”
To sign up, people can go to the town’s website and click on the CodeRED logo to enter their information and the notices they want to receive.
Devenne says only a small amount of people have registered for the service so far.
He says there is an option for everyone.
“Not everyone in Mahone Bay has access to a computer or uses a computer. Not everyone has a cellphone. The beauty in the CodeRED system is that you the citizen choose how you will be notified.”
Devenne adds he is unsure what time the notification will be sent.
Town council agreed in late July to use CodeRED at a cost of $1,500.
