Collyer Verdict Due This Morning

A verdict is expected this morning in the trial of former Bridgewater Police Chief John Collyer.

Collyer is facing charges of sexual assault and sexual exploitation of an underage girl stemming from an incident that is alleged to have taken place in 2016 when the girl was 17.

The former police chief was placed on administrative leave in August of 2016 before his employment with the town ended two years later.

The trial wrapped up September 11.

A decision is needed before November 3 to avoid the case being thrown out based on the Jordan decision.

That 2016 Supreme Court ruling allows 30 months in superior court between the laying of charges and the actual or anticipated end of a trial.

Justice Mona Lynch is expected to render her decision in Bridgewater Supreme Court beginning at 9:30 this morning.

We will provide updates as soon as they become available.
