Halifax fisherman remembered after boat capsized

A Halifax fisherman is being remembered as one of the good ones.

Phil MacInnis was one of the two men who died after the Fortune Pride capsized Friday off Sambro.

In a show of support, a GoFundMe campaign has raised thousands of dollars to help his family.

On the fundraiser’s page, organizer and best friend Brad Sullivan writes, “one of the hardest things in our fishing industry is losing good men to the sea.”

Sullivan says, “I had the opportunity to take Phil on his first trip fishing, and watch him grow into one of the best men I’ve ever had the privilege of sailing with. His love for the people in his life was unmatched, and his love for the water was strong.”

The other crew member who died was Captain John Allen Baker.

Two other deck hands survived in the incident, which is under investigation by the Transportation Safety Board.
